The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

MLP Issue 1 Sneak Peek

Normally, I'm opposed to big sneak peeks... at cons, I won't let you see your sketch until it is completely done. However, 4 pages have been put on display at the NYC My Little Pony Project this weekend. Photos of the pages have been leaked and posted, so... if the page is going to be shown, then I'm going to at least give you a clear look at it! But ONLY this page.

I've posted a page to my MLP Folder in my gallery. This is page 3 from issue 1, a grand splash giving hints at the story. There are also a lot of tips of the hat to the show and to the MLP Franchise in general. You'll also find myself, my wife, and writer Katie Cook ponified... poned? As well as six (count 'em) cats... my cats!

I was pleasantly surprised to come across the MLP show when I was in NY! I'd thought the framed pages were going to be at NYCC so it was pretty sweet seeing them in the show.
