crazy, I just looked at the Pinkie on the cover, and redrew it as Yoshi-Pie(Yoshi as a pony) and it almost looked like the art style used on the cover...

Nopony seems to be paying attention to Apple Bloom. :P

I always wanted one of these covers more than the retailer-exclusive cover I got by accident.  Oh well, at least I can look at the beautiful artwork here.  C:

Hey there, I've admired your work for a long time but I've just found your dA page, and I just wanted to ask a few questions (if you don't mind, I mean. You're one of my inspirations and idols and I've always wanted to know how you make everything look so amazing). How did you manage to get the colors (particularly on Pinkie Pie) so smooth and even? The shading is also really amazing and words cannot describe how much I love the detail and effort you put into this. I'm slowly teaching myself how to use Copic Markers and I've been wondering how to get all the lighting effects on the hair and pretty much everything else to work. Do I just avoid that area and use a lighter color in the spaces I left blank? Do you have any tips on how to create a smooth gradient? And I like how the white of the eyes aren't just white- how did you make sure the grey blended into the white so smoothly?

I'm sorry for bombarding you with this whole paragraph of questions, and I apologize for wasting your time. If you take the time to read and perhaps answer some of my questions I would be very grateful! Thank you so much for doing the amazing artwork that you do, and thank you for giving me a reason to push myself harder to be better- I'd like to be just like you someday!

As soon as I am able, I'll be posting a listing of Copics I use for each pony, and basics on how I approach it. for now, I'll say it's best to work light to dark, put down light areas first! You can always darken, you can't always lighten.

Oh wow- that would be great! Thank you very much! I can't wait!

I've got a question and I hope you can answer. TFAW shipped me one of the collector's boxes instead of two. I was going to send one to a friend overseas. Normally, I'd just take them up on teh second print run and go on. BUt the preview pic they have up ([link]) seems to indicate that THIS is going to be the box-art. I was wondering if you knew.

I heard you were doing another comic signing on the 15th at New Haven, and I really want to actually have the comic for that, but these are my favorite ponies, so if you actually knew that the box set was using this art, I'd send on the one printing I did receive and do the second run for myself.

That kind of info I'm not in on, so to be honest, you've actually got more details here than I do!

Thanks anyway. I guess I'll see if the guys at Haven know one way or the other.

Looking forward to seeing ya at the signing.

You've got the spirit of the show down so well, man! The expressions, the way the characters interact with their environment/props/friends... it really feels like an extension of the cartoon itself. Can't wait to see it in person!

This is a wonderful piece art that shines out with the positivity and joy of these characthers.Theres no doubt a difference between traditional and digital. The interesting thing is how the cover can already tell so many stories ,even before actualy starting the actual reading. The amount of detail gives a more pleasant pleasure to actualy look deeper into the cover. My personaly favorite part is Rainbow Dash,i love the elegant movement of the tail and the wings..the remind so much of a little putto,so very beautiful.

best two ponies! I can't wait for these to show up.

If you don't mind my asking, do the copics not cover the black ink? Or are you just super careful? I know next to nothing about markers :|
andypriceart Featured By Owner Oct 31, 2012  Professional Traditional Artist
No, actually, markers are essentially transparent. When I work like this, I use the PITT Pens from Faber Castell to outline the artwork. I then let those set to cure for at least an hour, just to be safe. then I do all the marker work, and then give weight and texture to the lines by going over them with india ink on a brush. I can't do that first, as marker will reactivate the india ink and smear it. markers take a little getting used to, but they are quick and bright and can be blended well

Dangit, I'm conflicted on which one to get, C with Pinkie Pie or D with Apple Bloom selling Balloons? ^_^
Retl Featured By Owner Nov 1, 2012  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Both, definitely both! (Though I know I'm personally thinking two of D.)
"Balloons, 2 bits, Will trade for Cutie Mark." Somehow, I don't think that that's gonna work.
Also, Tank be Stylin'

Pretty nice cover man, I like your art style for the comic. Funny to see what you added to the background such as Gummy "stealing" a record from DJ-PON3, one can assume, and Applebloom selling balloons in order to get her cutie mark.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your complete work on the comics when it gets out, it shall be interesting. Keep up the good work man! Best regards

This is in many ways a colourful picture :). Great work. Now we're all very curious about E and F ofcourse...

And I see you gave Applebloom a cutie mark! Of course it consists of a bunch of balloons that has just drifted away, so she's still left a blank flank. ;)

This is awesome, can't wait to find out which cover I get. Only wierd thing I notice about this though is that RD has red eyes, aren't they supposed to be magenta?
