Makes me think of Flash Thompson and similar characters. Not sure how that fits with a stage magician bent on revenger or a powerful monster who actually defies her natural instincts to be with her best friend.
So do some of the "Mane Six". Gilda is actually a totally different case, even if many people just see her as a bully. Her behaviour is rather unnatural. While a Griffon is considered strong, brave, intelligent and loyal, the one "flaw" it has is that it is the natural enemy of horses, and will eat them, which likely includes all kinds of horse monsters and colorful miniature horses. Hence the rarity of the Hippogriff, which is the offspring of a Griffon and a mare falling in love.
