PITT Pens and Copic Markers. This is for the new DC 52 sketch card set from Cryptozoic Entertainment and DC Comics. This is not typical card size, but an oversized 4x6 card. Since they can't put these in card packs, somebody out there will find a card that can be sent in and redeemed for one of these big'uns! I did 15 for the set, as well as 50 regular sized cards. More to come!

Haha, nice. Love the Flash. He needs his own movie. Directed by Chris Nolan, of course.

No superhero deserves to be subjected to Nolan's Tim Burton-level "My fetishes are more important than the material" treatment. I'd rather have a director who actually understands and embraces the fun and fantasy of superheroes than one who's bent on gutting all of that out.

Nolan gives superheroes a breath of realism and seriousness. I think some people are a little tired of hokey comic book movies.

Nolan's idea of "realism" is stripping away the fantastical, exciting qualities and visuals of the characters only to succeed in making them look and feel even more stupid and preposterous than their comic book selves. Far from making Batman and company feel like they could really exist, Nolan calls attention to the fact that they can't. His "realistic" visions of them are such extreme breaks from the classics that they only reinforce how unreal the characters really are. In short, he accomplishes the exact opposite of what he thinks he's doing. As for "seriousness," I don't think arrogant, humorless pretension with unlikeable characters and a total lack of anything resembling fun or energy qualifies. Stupidity? Yes. Self-absorption? Yes. But I can't take Nolan's junk seriously at all.

As for "hokey comic book movies," NOBODY, I repeat, NOBODY is asking for that. Least of all me. What I want are filmmakers who understand what they're dealing with. These are colorful, larger-than-life folk heroes who exist in an equally large and wild world. Even comic book historians like Les Daniels spoke of how these characters are pure fantasy, and that needs to be acknowledged and embraced. One only has to look at how the DCAU brought these characters to life to see how, narratively and thematically, it can and should be done in live-action. (I fully acknowledge that some degree of character redesign is inevitable, but there's a difference between changes for translation's sake and changes for change's sake.) Present these characters in all their fantastical glory, but do so with sincerity, love, and conviction, and don't be afraid to have the characters laugh at themselves and have some fun with the characters when appropriate. It's what separates the class acts like Dini-Timm from the "I know better than the material" antics of guys like Burton and Nolan.
